Seven Steps To Heaven 2009

2009 - Classical Formalism - sub-group of Minimalism - much more involved & has many demands that must be met - white vertical geometric format - division of space - lines - angles - I created the white border first - I used a very thin black contour line to define the outside edges of the border - next I moved in to where I was going to make the actual piece - I used wider black contour line to define this area - now to the piece - I created 7 solid black steps by using perspective mode - when I did this I created angles on the outer edges of each black step plus met the rule of having angles in the piece - I placed them at an equal distance from one another vertically - the bottom step is the longest & the top one is the shortest - this helps to create depth in this piece - each step has 2 vertical lines attached to it - one is at the front of it & other at the back of it - they are all equally spaced & they meet the demand of using lines - the lines & the steps divide the space with in the piece - the finally demand is to have a piece contain only what it needs & nothing more - it must be stripped down to its foundation - I like to say it has been stripped to its bones & you can see that this piece has met this rule - I now have a very clean & pristine piece with no clutter - I placed a wide white border around it in order to give it a clean & finished presentation
